Stockport Reunion |
|
I am sure you all know by now that our new venue for our Stockport reunion is The Alma Lodge Hotel. When I found out about the Acton Court closing down I immediately did a recce and found it very nice indeed. The rooms are a bit on the expensive side, the price of the dinner has gone up to £23.00, car parking is very good and no doubt the bar prices will be expensive, so what, it is only once a year. The date is 16th/17th October. The Acton Court gave me no notice at all, I just had a phone call to say it had closed down, which meant a lot of phone calls informing people who had booked accommodation there. In the end I sorted it all out. In relation to the Acton Court, it is just a bit further down the road, opposite the garage. With regards the Acton Court being our past venue, you must remember we have had some good weekends there over the past 25 years when John was alive and our attendance figures were way above the 100 mark when everyone was fit and active. Since then we have lost a lot of good friends. The Plinth at the Arboretum
We are still getting rave reviews about our plinth at the Arboretum. Captain Cornish gave us a mention in the Regimental Association Newsletter which was very kind of him. You must keep it in the back of your mind that when you are in that neck of the woods you must call in and have a look at it. Our plinth and that of the 11th Hussars are the only ones on the path up to the main memorial so everyone going up there must pass our plinth. We have a flag pole next to our plinth, instead of putting the expensive flags with the badge embroidered, can anyone recollect what the flag looked like when it flew outside the guardroom? We have had a quote for the flag with just the colours only. It would be nice to know what the make-up of the flag was when it flew on a daily basis. Swindon Sunday Lunch
I think that is enough waffling for the moment. Please don’t forget the Swindon Sunday Lunch on 17th May. If you are attending please give Liz Bentley a ring so she can inform the pub of the numbers. Last year there was a good attendance, well over the 80 mark, so let us keep it up. Hope to see many of you at Stockport.
Cheers Ron & June
